Rotimi AmaechiThe Rivers State Stakeholders’ Conference on Sustainable Development is an innovative community and stakeholders parliament styled program designed to empower rural communities to drive their development. This maiden edition of this event was held in the oil rich city of Port Harcourt in Rivers State of Nigeria from the 12th - 18th of October 2008. It is an annual event drawing delegates representing development clusters of communities as proposed in the Fifteen(15) Year  Plan of the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) and other development stakeholders. The conference provided a practical and productive platform in a colourful, relaxed and entertaining environment which enabled stakeholders to interact, develop market and other linkages, and partnership for sharing experiences and learning, with the aim of forging and executing a state-wide agenda for rapid and sustainable rural transformation to arrest socio-economic decline.more...

FORMER president of Ghana, Mr Jerry Rawlings, will be arriving Nigeria today to give the keynote address at a six-day conference on sustainable development in Rivers State. According to the Desk officer in charge of media and publicity on the conference, Freddy Ndigbara, Rawlings will arrive Port Harcourt around 2:00pm and would hold a roundtable with participants in the conference this evening.more...

Day 4 [15th October, 2008] - Workshops/NGO Engagement Forum
Day 1 - Event Venue Delegates Workshop Sessions continued on day four. There was also Panel discussion on defining the role and responsibilities of the NGO in the Rivers State Development Framework, held at the Alfred Diete-Spiff Sports Complex.

Day 3 [14th October, 2008] - Workshop Sessions for Delegates/Political and Public Office Holders Forum
Day 1 - Event VenueDay three of the event saw delegates engage in workshops of various categories. Each workshop was attended by selected delegates from each local government area. Also, a Political and Public Office Holders Forum was held at the Government House in Rivers State.
