The Rivers State Stakeholders’ Conference on Sustainable Development is an innovative community and stakeholders parliament styled program designed to empower rural communities to drive their development. This maiden edition of this event was held in the oil rich city of Port Harcourt in Rivers State of Nigeria from the 12th - 18th of October 2008. It is an annual event drawing delegates representing development clusters of communities as proposed in the Fifteen(15) Year Plan of the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) and other development stakeholders. The conference provided a practical and productive platform in a colourful, relaxed and entertaining environment which enabled stakeholders to interact, develop market and other linkages, and partnership for sharing experiences and learning, with the aim of forging and executing a state-wide agenda for rapid and sustainable rural transformation to arrest socio-economic decline.more...

FORMER president of Ghana, Mr Jerry Rawlings, will be arriving Nigeria today to give the keynote address at a six-day conference on sustainable development in Rivers State.
