Sustainable development best practices require that the people at the grassroots be effectively engaged to participate in the development process to ensure they take ownership and manage the process. In the light of foregoing, the participant mobilization committee has the responsibility to mobilize, engage and prepare official delegates and other participants/stakeholders to the conference.
The Local Government Councils facilitated the effort of the committee during selection of community representatives from the following community structures:
- Community development committees (CDCs)
- Women groups
- Youth groups
- Occupational groups
- Council of Chiefs etc
Participant Selection Criteria (Qualifications)
Persons chosen to attend the conference in representative capacity have the following qualities;
- Responsible and of good act
- Have the capacity to listen, focus on and understand proceedings
- Have skills to communicate experience to members of the interest group he/she represent
- Have been chosen through a popular process e.g. consensus or election
Quality Representation
To ensure adequate and quality representation of each Local Government Area, the following approaches will be adopted:
- A participatory consultation approach (engagement of key stakeholders) that ensures high quality representation of communities in the LGA at the conference
- Preparation of selected participants for full participation
- Establishment of effective feedback system as follow-up to post-conference activities.
